NAVY NATURAL RESOURCES AND LAND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM The Navy and Marine Corps manage more than four million acres worldwide. Much of this land is located in sensitive wetlands along valuable coastlines, some of the most ecologically significant areas in the world. The location of our real estate holdings makes it imperative that we plan and execute our various military missions in harmony with our environment. It is a Department of the Navy goal to promote an environmental protection ethic within the Navy workforce. The Department of the Navy supports numerous partnerships with other Federal, State, local and private resource groups to promote such programs as the North American Waterfowl Management Plan, Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation, Wetlands Protection and Enhancement, and Watchable Wildlife. To succeed in its mission, and to earn confidence, the Navy must emphasize resource stewardship in every aspect of its land use. It does. Come see for yourself and discover our resources. |
Welcome to Naval Air
Station Whiting Field. The mission at Whiting is to
provide pilot training for Navy, Marine, Coast Guard and
allied naval aviators. Student aviators learn primary
fixed wing (T-34) and advanced helicopter (TH-57) flight training. Recently, the
mission has expanded to include Air Force primary fixed
wing flight training.NAS Whiting Field, located six miles north of Milton, Florida, is named after Captain Kenneth Whiting, a pioneer naval aviator who was taught to fly by Orville Wright himself! Its 4,070 acres are located on a sandy ridge bordered by two waterways, Clear Creek on the west and Coldwater Creek on the east. The Clear Creek Nature Trail includes 1,200 feet of boardwalk over beaver dams and a pitcher plant bog. Stormwater management ponds near the East Gate provide excellent habitat for waterfowl and shorebirds. For more information contact the Public Affairs Office, 904-623-7651. |
